Sleeper mattresses are not the same size as standard mattresses.

These dimensions allow the mattress to fold correctly within the mechanism.
Mounting Width vs. Mattress Size
This is a common point of confusion. The mounting width of the mechanism does not match the mattress width. Nor are sleeper mattresses the same size as standard mattresses. To determine the correct mattress width, subtract 8 inches from the mounting width. This ensures the mattress fits properly within the frame.
For example:
A 44" mounting width = 36" mattress (Twin)
A 60" mounting width = 52" mattress (Full)
