Hand Crafted Felt from Nepal: Hearts Garland in Grey
Hand Crafted Felt from Nepal: Hearts Gar... $34.50
Spice up a nursery or kids' space with this adorable hand-crafted felt garland of stars and spheres. Intricate detail works all around. Made with love by women artisans in Nepal. 48 inches with loops for hanging. 100% All Natural New Zealand Wool. Azo-free dyes. Due to the handmade nature, slight variations in size, exact color, shape, pattern, or other characteristics may be evident. Each piece is truly a unique work of art, lovingly crafted by hand. The Art of Felting: The first step to creating these beautiful felt pieces begins with gathering some of the world's finest sheep's wool from New Zealand. Making felted wool is an ages-old, time-consuming process of bonding fabric with fiber. This is a physical job where the artisan scrub, rub, roll and rinse the wool again and again with soapy water. Once the wool is bound into a sheet and the desired thickness is complete, the felt is laid out to dry. From there, the felt wool is cut and reworked into many complex shapes and designs. The many sheets of wool might merge several colors to create patterns and layers. This takes a well-trained, talented artisan and is a true labor of love. The end results are colorful, one-of-a-kind textiles that are stunning to behold. Hand Hammered Metal Container with Round Handles
Hand Hammered Metal Container with Round... $61.80 $107.25
Beautiful hammered bowl with intricate designs made from Haitian Steel Oil Drums. Featuring sturdy round handles for ease of carrying. This artistic bowl is both decorative and functional. The edges are rounded and smooth, making this a great functional bowl. Or, a beautiful piece of art in any to complement any décor! Measures 6 x 5 inches. When you visit Croix des Bouquets, the area of town known for Haitian metal art in the capital of Port-Au-Prince, you are met with a cacophony of tink, tink, tink as ball peen hammers strike sheets of steel. The sheets are cut from steel drums colored by oil and other liquids the drums at one time held. The process of turning sheets of metal into beautiful wall art is all done by hand, from cutting holes that become edges of trees and leaves, to accenting each lizard with a texture of scales, to painting or lacquering the final design. The artists are proud of their work, signing the pieces on the back side, and leaving a raised, reversed signature on the front. Hand-Carved African Giraffe Mask
Hand-Carved African Giraffe Mask $67.99 $99.06
This Giraffe mask is hand-carved and hand-painted by economically disadvantaged members of the Kamba tribe in Kenya. Purchasing this product provides sustainable income for artists to support their families and send their children to school. Mask measures approximately 8.5 inches in height and 4 inches in depth. Working with more than 100 individual carvers in Machakos, Kenya, Jedando Modern Handicrafts markets African handicrafts primarily made of wood and bone worldwide. Carving is a tradition in Kenya with the children learning the craft from their parents. Carved by hand using only rudimentary hand tools, olive wood bowls, salad serving sets, and animal-shaped napkin rings take shape from pieces of olive wood, mahogany, and mpingo, or "African Ebony". An integral part of the organization's function is to educate the craftspeople on the need for reforestation to enable the products to be available for years to come and offer a sustainable income for generations. While wood carving provides the major income for many in the Machakos area, other craftspeople earn a living by further enhancing the products including painting the napkin rings and carving discarded animal bones for the handles of salad serving sets. Often the bone is "batiked" by placing wax on the white bone and dipping the bone in a dark brown/black dye, resulting in patterns in African mud cloth designs. We deliver socially responsible products curated for you from over 20 countries. Be part of the solution.
